Throwing: There's no substitute for actual throwing. When not throwing your standard discus, try throwing lighter or overweight discs. Other useful implements are bars, tools, and small shots. Also be sure to alter your levels of intensity and volume without sacrificing quality.
Technique: Repetition is the key to success. Whether you're in the discus ring or in the grocery store, drill drill drill! Throwing the discus involves putting your body in very unnatural positions. In order to make these positions feel natural you must train your neuromuscular system by repeting the movements over and over and over again. Eventually you'll be able to perform the technique without thought. Relax - Rhythm - Power - Passion
Training: "Bigger, Stronger, Faster". We've heard that saying before, but does it relate to throwing? Maybe a little... Throwing the discus, like any other throwing event, is all about physics. Speed, Power, Acceleration, The Creation of Torque, and Relative Positioning within Time. All factors. Therefore as throwers we need to focus our training on improving each of these factors.
Recovery & Nutrition: SLEEP!!! Your body wants to repair itself, but you must first lay down and sleep. There's no getting around that. As for nutrition.. You are what you eat. When all else fails follow the Food Pyramid. Whatever you do please stay far away from steroids or anything like it.
